MIKE THORNE Obituary

MICHAEL THORNE Michael Sheahan Thorne, 48, was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 22, 1973 to Patrick and Dixie Thorne. Sadly, but peacefully, he passed away on April 22, 2021, after a long illness. In his youth he was bright, adventurous, and fearless. He graduated from Valley High School, Class of 1991, where he was an all-star pitcher. He loved to travel and was especially fond of Australia and New Zealand. Wherever he went, he touched the lives of so many. As a Vegas local, true to form, he gravitated towards the hospitality industry where he worked for many years in a variety of hotel and hospitality functions. He was a true son of Las Vegas. Mike had an enormous heart and was beloved for his kindness and his sense of humor. He had a great affection for animals and rescued many during his lifetime. Nothing was more important to him than his family and he spent as much time as he could with them. His smile, laugh, and warmth will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Katy Smircich; parents, Patrick and Dixie; and his brother, Chris (Karen).

My sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Thorne family. Growing up, Mike and I were best friends. We probably would have stayed that way if I weren't zoned for a different high school. Even still, we remained friends through high school and even attended each other's weddings. Just two weeks ago my kids asked me who my best friend was growing up so I told them about Mike and how we did everything together so you can imagine my shock when someone reached out to me to let me know what had happened. He was the most important person to me at that time and to this day I cherish all the memories we shared. It saddens me to hear of his passing because I would love to just talk with him one more time to see how life has been for him all these years and now I won't get the opportunity. I have been in California for 20 years, but I have always thought of Las Vegas as home where I grew up and where I met this kid who was an amazing baseball player, but didn't take things too seriously. Mike and I would sit in each other's rooms and make each other laugh and say all the things we wanted to do with our lives when we got older. All I can say is that I am a better person for knowing him and I want to thank him for that as well as thank Patrick and Dixie for putting up with me all those years. Good Bye- Signed, Your Best Friend.

My heart is sad !!! I grew up with him and he reached out to me when I was living in Germany we talked often about many things . The wife from Australia and his parents and his pain ! I lost contact around 2017 ! Facebook and him calling in Germany . My gut feeling told me something was wrong and to read this today and i now moved home back to Vegas / USA .Im glad to know he´s no longer suffering in pain . I would love to talk to his parents and give them a hug . Sincerely Tiffany. My number is 702 971 0380
