SEYMOUR FREEDMAN Obituary

SEYMOUR FREEDMAN Mr. Seymour Freedman, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away March 19, 2013. Seymour, known to his many friends as "Sy," was born March 31, 1921 in New York. After a brief stint as an amateur boxer, he joined the U.S. Army during World War II. He gallantly served in the 63rd Infantry Division, where he rose to the rank of staff sergeant and was in Europe on V-E Day when the war ended. He received many military commendations, most notably the Bronze Star. This was awarded for his bravery when he and his men crossed the Saar River in France and Germany in rubber boats under enemy fire on an intelligence operation. After the war he became one of New York City's finest when he joined the New York City Police Department. He then moved to South Florida to enter the restaurant business. After several years he moved to Las Vegas to continue his work in the restaurant business and worked with his boyhood friend, Jasper Speciale, at the well-known Leaning Tower of Pizza restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip. Prior to his retirement he worked as a bailiff for Clark County, Nevada. He enjoyed a fulfilling retirement with his wife Anna in Wichita Falls. Up until his final days, he had a mind that was as sharp as a tack. He could spend hours telling family, friends, and even strangers about his many exploits during his colorful life. He had a great sense of humor and was an avid sports fan. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Anna; son, David and wife, Sherry of Marietta, Ga.; daughter, Diane Sapir and husband, Michael of Potomac, Md.; grandchildren, Lauren and Eric Freedman of Marietta, and Ethan and Alex Sapir of Potomac; sister, Marilyn Krohn of Seminole, Fla.; and sister, Shirley Greenman of St. Petersburg, Fla. He will be dearly missed by nephew, Al Bromauer; and grandniece, Tanja Robinson and her husband, George, all of Wichita Falls. He was laid to rest Friday, March 22 at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Largo, Fla. May his soul be bound in the binding of life.

Sy was a good man. I worked with him while he worked in Justice Court, many moons ago. He always talked about how much he loved his wife. He had such a gentle soul. Even though I hadn't seen him in years, my husband and I talked about him and remembered him with great affection. Our prayers and thoughts are head the families way
