WILLIAM BURBY Obituary

WILLIAM BURBY JR. Honorable William Edward Burby Jr., of Frisco, Texas, passed away peacefully March 12, 2015, at the age of 85. Bill is survived by his wife, Miriam; son, Michael and his wife, Nori; and stepchildren, Alison Cardwell, John and William Tharpe, and their spouses and children. Bill attended New Mexico Military Institute then graduated from USC in 1952 with a degree in business. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He returned from Korea to graduate from the University of California at Los Angeles Law School in 1957. Bill began his distinguished legal career as a Los Angeles deputy district attorney and later practiced law as an associate and partner before being appointed a judge to the Los Angeles Superior Court in 1989. Bill and Miriam retired to Las Vegas. A man of amazing character and a huge heart, Bill had a terrific sense of humor and an unending passion for USC football. Fight On! "Bill Burby, you will be greatly missed for your gregarious nature, hearty laugh and willingness to accept all the trials and tribulations of life in such a good-natured way." Services are pending. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Professor William E. Burby Sr. and Honorable William E. Burby Jr. Endowment at USC. The Burby Endowment supports the USC Gould School of Law Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) program. Donations may be sent to the USC Gould School of Law, Development and Graduate Relations, 1149 S. Hill St., Suite 340, Los Angeles, CA 90015.

I worked with Bill at KERN & WOLLEY between 1982 and 1986. He was a good guy and I was sorry to learn of his passing. He had a great life. I fondly remember attending a USC football game with him in 2004, which was quite an experience.

Dear Michael - I am very sorry for your loss. Your dad was such a huge part of our childhood. There was nothing my dad liked to do more than call over the fence for Big Bad Bill to come over and have a drink and watch the game - He was a wonderful man and I have so many fond memories - May he rest in peace- Kathleen
