William Wantland Obituary

WILLIAM WANTLAND William, "Disco Santa," Wantland, 57, of Henderson, passed away Dec. 23, 2011. Born in Modesto, Calif., July 26, 1954, Mr. Wantland was a former professional wrestler that wrestled by the name, "Moondog Spike." He was also a wrestling trainer in Pennyslvania for many years. He was the self-proclaimed, "Handicapped Ambassador Of Las Vegas." He was a regular on the Strip, especially the Fremont Street area. He entertained the tourists with his stories of the city he loved. He had fans from all over the world. He was a hero to all but, mostly the children who knew him as Disco Santa. He put a smile on the faces of many precious children. He also loved animals and worked tirelessly for animal charities as well as children's charities. His, "over the top," personality made him a beloved character in the eyes of many. Music was another of his loves and in his earlier days, he performed with such groups as, "Bill Hailey and the Comets" and "Danny and the Juniors." He was proud of all of his accomplishments but, mostly of his invention of the one handed guitar for the handicapped. His videos can be seen on YouTube under Disco Santa. He worked for years as an entertainer at Beacher's Madhouse at the Hard Rock Cafe. He was the life of the crowd. He got to meet and work with numerous celebrities as well as appearing on such television shows as, "Holly's World," "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" and "Criss Angel's Mind Freak." He is greatly missed by all those that loved him and knew him best. He will also be missed by those he met through the years of his career as an entertainer. His larger than life personality lit up the room when he entered. Services will be private. Contributions in his memory can be made to Heaven Can Wait Sanctuary in Las Vegas or any animal or children's charity of one's choice.
