Robert Hartmann Obituary
March 16, 1942 - December 15, 2017
Macon, GA- Dr. Robert Walter Hartmann, 75, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on December 15, 2017 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY, from complications related to pneumonia. He was born in Elgin, IL and raised in River Forest IL, the son of Walter and Marguerite Hartmann.
Robert is survived by daughters, Anne (Hartmann) Considine-Olsen and Eve Hartmann-Crep, their mother Mary (Lansdale) Hartmann, brothers William and Paul Hartmann, nieces and nephews Mitra, Vanessa, Daniel and Phillip Hartmann, and "the Grands" Eleanor, Madeline, Marshall, Amelia and Oliver. Many dear friends and colleagues will miss him.
After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan and Northwestern Medical School, he completed his internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL and his residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. His career as psychiatrist spanned over 50 years, and he practiced in many cities across the U.S., most notably in Chicago, IL and Macon, GA. He was devoted to clinical work in addiction recovery. He believed strongly in providing mental health services to people who had been forgotten or stigmatized in their communities.
He was an avid tennis player until his knees would no longer cooperate with his competitive spirit. Year round tennis was one reason he loved living in Georgia, as well as the opportunity to enjoy blues and country music, barbeque, and golf.
He pursued many hobbies over the years, collected folk art, Tiffany style lamps, Santas, kachina dolls, hummingbird feeders, tie-dyed shirts and ridiculous hats. He was both a fantastic Santa and an exceptional Grinch, and family will greatly miss his Christmas spirit as well as the homemade pecan candy he mailed out each year he lived in Georgia.
Services will be held on January 13, 2018 at 11:00am, at Grace Lutheran Church, located at Bonnie Brae and Division Streets, in River Forest, IL. Robert's Grand Niece has type 1 Diabetes, and in lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.

To Dr Hartmann's family: I worked with him for years at the mental health opt center in Milledgeville, GA. He was a pain in the beginning of our work relationship, then a joy as things evolved. I admired his capacity to diagnose an illness & appropriate tx. I've missed him since my retirement 10 yrs ago and thought of him, wishing the best for him. I'm saddened by his death.
