CROSS PLAINS - Russell Raymond Sutter, age 82, of Cross Plains, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at UW Hospital. He was born on Nov. 25, 1939, in the Town of Perry, Wis., the son of Albert Sutter and Bertha (Haag) Sutter.

Russell graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Lynne Zwettler on Oct. 22, 1963. Russell retired from the Amerhart Lumber Company at the age of 70, then decided to go back to work and worked part-time for State Bank of Cross Plains. He was a volunteer for many years as a firefighter with the Cross Plains Fire Department and a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Russell enjoyed playing baseball in his younger days and continued with Home Talent and also coached the CYO. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Brewers, Badgers and Packers. Russell liked hunting and fishing and simply being outdoors. He had a keen sense for finding deer along the roadside. Russell enjoyed putzing around his home and in his yard. He was a devoted grandpa and enjoyed attending all of his children and grandchildren's events. They were truly his pride and joy.

Russell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynne; his children, Joann (David) Statz, Christopher Sutter and Eric (Veronica) Sutter; grandchildren, Andrew and Jeremy Statz, Brandon and Kyla Sutter, and Alex, Katelyn and Logan Sutter; siblings, Laverne (Agnes) Sutter, Toni (Jim) Adams, Marlene (Dick) Acker, Rosie Miller, Cec (Bill) Walsh and Pauline Tvedt; sisters-in-law, Louise, Marge and Rosie Sutter, Judy (Jerry) Keller, Martha Amezquita and Barb Zwettler; and brothers-in-law, Dick (Carol) Zwettler, Jim (Jean) Zwettler, Tom Sutter, John Zwettler and Chuck (Jane) Zwettler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bertha; son, Stephan Russell Sutter; parents-in-law, Florian and Teresa Zwettler; brothers, Syl, Joe and Dennis Sutter; infant sister; brothers-in-law, Ken Miller, Lou Tvedt, Tom Zwettler and Larry Zwettler; and sisters-in-law, Nancy Sutter and Janice Zwettler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022, with Father Scott Jablonski presiding. A luncheon will follow in Fellowship Hall. A visitation will be held at the church from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Burial with Military Honors will be conducted at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
