1939-2014
PALERMO - Howard W. "Yappy" Dyer Sr., 75, of Palermo, died peacefully March 24, 2014, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
He was born March 12, 1939, in Palermo, a son of Herbert and Mava Dyer.
He was married to Janice (Hood) Dyer, of Albion. They together had seven children and two stepsons. For many years, he was a companion of Bernice Trepanier, of Palermo.
He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Mava Dyer, of Palermo; a brother, Royce Dyer, of Augusta; a sister-in-law, Vera Dyer, of Palmero; and a son-in-law Troy McCaslin, of Winslow.
He is survived by his six sons, Mark Dyer, and wife Michelle, of Connecticut, Andrew Dyer, of Oregon, John Dyer and partner Diane, of Belfast, Matthew Dyer, of Augusta, Timothy Dyer and wife Gwen, of Albion, Howard "Skeet" Dyer and wife Melissa, of Sidney; his daughter, Debra McCaslin, of Winslow; and his two stepsons, Danny Hood and Darroll Hood, of Winslow; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; brothers David Dyer and wife Brenda, of Palermo, Donald Dyer and wife Pat, of Albion, Ronald Dyer and wife Sherry, of Richmond, and Richard Dyer, of Palermo; sister Sharon Clements and husband David, of Belfast; and a sister-in-in-law, Carmen, of Augusta.
Howard attended Carrs Corner School of Palermo. He worked as a school bus driver, drove dump trucks and operated heavy equipment. His passion was a finish carpenter.
He enjoyed fourwheeling, snowmobiling, his camp in Bingham, a home away from home with Bernice Trepanier where they spent a lot of time doing what they enjoyed and met several new friends on fourwheeler trails.
He took special care of his property in Palermo, gardening, pruning trees, planting shrubs and mowing his lawn. He spent lots of time with his son John building. He spent lots of time with his son "Skeet" and daughter-in-law Melissa playing cards, dice, taking rides, putting in gardens, planting rose bushes, and pruning around his property. He spent several evenings just enjoying each other's company.
Howard loved all his children, stepsons and everyone he was around.
Graveside burial will be at a later date at Chadwich Hill Cemetery in South China. A gathering will follow the burial at Sheepscot Lake Clubhouse.
