Walter Watt Obituary

Walter A Watts, Sr.
1952 - 2017
VASSALBORO - Walter A Watts, Sr., 64, of Vassalboro, died at V A Maine Healthcare at Togus on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, after a long courageous battle with cancer and went to be with our God. He was born in Skowhegan on Dec. 3, 1952, the son of James E. Watts and Patricia E. (Bishop) Watts (both predeceased).
His wife, T Dale, predeceased him in February 2016. He is survived by his son, Walter A. Watts, Jr. and wife Amity of Brooks, his daughter, Lindsay L. Watts of Vassalboro, stepson, Ryan Chasse of Hooksett, NH; a brother, Ryan Watts and wife Karen of Heber, Ariz., sisters, Judy Libby and husband Jim of Skowhegan, Diane Culleton and husband Earl of Skowhegan, Ruth Cyr and husband David of Lewiston, and Helen Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; grandsons, Walter A. Watts III of Brooks, and Miles and Spencer Chasse of Hooksett, NH; as well as a number of beloved nieces and nephews. Also, his only remaining aunt, Dorothy Pinkham of Waterville. He also had a sister Linda who predeceased him.
Walter went to Norridgewock Elementary School and then graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in 1971. After he graduated, he went to University of Maine at Machias and Thomas College. He entered the USAF in 1973 and served until 1980. He moved to Tucson, Ariz. and worked for 12 years for the Hughes Aircraft Company. In 1992, he moved back to Maine and worked 5 years for Digital/SCI Company. In 1998, he was hired by the Maine Public Employees Retirement System and worked there for 15 years and retired from them in 2013.
Walter also enjoyed collecting coins and was a lifetime member and past president of the Tucson Coin Club in the 1980s. He also collected sports cards and enjoyed selling them at local card shows until 2000. Walter loved sports and played golf, basketball, baseball, softball, bowling and a number of other sports throughout his life. In his last 20 years, he played golf as much as possible, especially with his long time friends and "brothers" Norm Elvin and Tim and Andy Wing.
And above all, he enjoyed watching his beloved Cony High School Field Hockey team who brought him so much fun and enjoyment from the time his daughter played until after she graduated.
In 2006, he met and then married his soul mate and love of his life, Dale. Until she passed away unexpectedly, it was the best nine years of his life. You could always find the two of them holding hands, hugging, kissing or just being near each other, enjoying every moment they could together. They had that purest of marriages where they never argued or yelled at each other but was as pure a love you can find on God's green earth. Until he found Dale, Walter said that he felt that the piece of his life that he was searching for that would make him truly happy would be in Heaven because it was not on earth. Now he has gone to Heaven to be back with his beloved Dale.
There will be a committal service with military honors at noon on Friday, June 2, 2017 in the committal shelter at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta, with Pastor Val Vigue officiating.

Walter, I can't believe that you are gone. I just talked to you last Friday morning - told you I love you and what a good brother you are. I can't believe I can't call you or text you or see you. It just doesn't seem real that you are gone. I know, in my head, that you are in heaven with Mom and Dad and Dale, but in my heart you're still here - I miss you so much. Love you always. See you at home later.

To the family of Walter Watts,
It was a pleasure knowing Walter. As many of you know, me and my family lived beside him and his family for many years growing up on the Sandy River Road in the 60's. We would get together almost every day to play ball games, games such as red light and mother may I, and climbing and swinging in our barn and making home made ice cream was a real treat!
Walter kept in contact with our family over the years, stopping by to see us, always caring about what we were doing and filling us in on what was happening in his life.
I admire him for all he went through with such courage and strength, always letting his feelings be known. He loved everyone.
Lindsey, I'm sure he left you with lots of memories and advise for the future. He loved you very much!
R.I.P. Walter. Sending "Air Hugs!"
Bless you all!

Walter, you shall be missed. Loved your kindness, your sense of humor, your laugh--you were one of the most caring people I've ever known. Your heart was bigger than the state of Maine! Hugs and healing to Lindsay and Walter Jr.--what a great man to have as your dad!

Walter was a good-hearted, kind soul who made the world a brighter and better place. It was so great to see him at the Skowhegan High School Reunion just a this past summer. The world will miss this good man but heaven is blessed to have him. I know he is finally without pain and enjoying the fruit of his labors in this life, resting in the arms of His Savior. I'm thankful for his life and that his memory lives on in Lindsay and all who were fortunate enough to know him. May the Lord bring you great comfort and peace, Lindsay, during this difficult time.
