Charles Weir Obituary

Charles S. Weir, Jr., 85
WESTBROOK - Charles S. Weir, Jr. (Charlie), 85, of Conner Drive, Westbrook, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015, at his home, with his wife by his side. He was born on March 12, 1930, in Westbrook, the son of Charles S. Weir, Sr. and Mildred (Todd) Weir and, upon graduating Westbrook High School, Charlie proudly joined and served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, attaining the rank of Senior Chief Aerographer's Mate, and was retired on June 1, 1977.
Upon returning to Westbrook, Charlie was briefly employed by the Men's Shop, and then worked at the Westbrook Post Office until his permanent retirement. He was a member of the Kora Temple Shrine, Cumberland County Shrine Club, the Northern Masonic Lodge, and the American Legion.
In his later years, he had a passion for television (especially sports), musical productions, gospel music, reading, crossword puzzles, and loved the many dogs he and his family adopted over the years. He was known to be a quiet, shy, honest and generous man.
He was predeceased by a son Gary Weir; and survived by his wife Martha (Penny) Weir; daughter Kelly Weir and partner Robert Cotiaux, son Stephen Weir and his wife Linda; grandchildren Mykenzie Cotiaux and Shannon Weir; and his dear friend Paul Bernier and his wife Angela.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Christian Thomas and the staff at the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, the staff and doctors at Mercy Hospital and Maine Medical Center, Dr. Steidl at the Eyecare Medical Group, and the VNA staff for the excellent care they provided to our dear Charlie in his battle with cancer over the years.
There will be no public service as our family will mourn together in a private gathering. His family appreciates your thoughts and prayers. Online condolences may be expressed at
