There was a group of Aggie science students that wanted to take a trip to the sun, but some UT students said that was impossible and that they would burn up along the way before they reached the sun.
The Aggies replied, "We're going to travel at night!"
I miss your humor Dr. John and your sunny disposition. The world is not the same without you in it.

John will be missed greatly and was one of my oldest and dearest friends. We met at Trenton State College in NJ in the early seventies while taking classes in Industrial Arts Technology . We hit it off immediately and became best friends. We had NUMEROUS good times at TSC, his Trenton apartment, BBQ's at his parents' home in NJ, Texas A&M (with a side trip to Mexico one visit, wow), North Carolina, with the largest plate of ribs I've ever seen, and in Maine with his family. I probably have enough stories for a few books. We always tried getting together for the holidays when his family traveled to NJ. We would go into NYC for the Broadway shows, I would drive in and he would comment that I'm brave (crazy) to do so. Now the bus or train is a safer option. With our earlier adventures, I'm surprise we didn't get arrested along the way. I would do anything to have one more adventure with John. Our last adventure was a month before his passing, I will always remember that as the most heartfelt, memorable adventure of all.
To his daughters, Emily and Sarah who matured to be beautiful, intelligent and loving daughters. You would make any father very proud.
You truly are a good friend and I'm blessed to have known you in my life.
Good bye dear friend, but not to our memories.

John was such a kind, smart, and witty man. He always had a different joke every time you visited with him. He would go out of his way to do anything for people in his neighborhood and students at USM. Our deepest sympthy to Emily, Sarah and his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you through this most difficult time. Love, Kim Ballantyne and Mike Downing

John was one of a kind. Always ready with a joke and a smile. He could make me laugh in any situation. He was also a very thoughtful person. He had a way of noticing what was important to each person from a collection a person may have in their home to noticing that you preferred the top of the bagel. Then he would make sure you had that. His daughters were the love of his life. He always beamed when talking about them. Being the best professor possible was very important to him. He wanted to make sure he taught them well and gave them the best chance at success. He is greatly missed. I know he is with his Father in heaven with pure happiness and no pain.

Every time I walk into a classroom. I will demonstrate the same respect to everyone in that room that John had shown us. I feel I am a better person for having known Dr. Marshall.

My memories of John is his quiet, gentle way, a ready smile, a kind word, and a joke on the tip of his tongue! We will miss you John, but know that you are no longer in pain. I can see you smiling and reveling in the Light of your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! You will be missed. God Bless You.

Always a smile and friendly greeting at LifeChurch ... John took his 'job' seriously!
He was more than a greeter to many of us, he was our friend. He invited us to his house for cookouts, he was part of our lifegroup, went snowshoeing with us ..!! And don't forget the special recipe he had for beans!!! He will be remembered and missed - until we meet again in heaven :)
