John was a member and Past Commander of the Brown Emmons Post # 134 American Legion, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. as well as a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge # 55, both of Alfred. He was a Past Master of the lodge in 1966 and in 2001 - 2002. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and his dog Whiskers, a mini- schnauzer.

I will always remember John as an incredible man. I've known him for 20yrs. He used to take care of my mom and me when our vehicles needed repair. For 10yrs he has been a neighbor, the first one up in the neighborhood, out on his tractor. He would always call if a deer or turkey was in his backyard. He wil be greatly missed by myself and Scott.

John was a great friend and hunting buddy. He and my Dad had many interesting adventures together and we hope in heaven he doesn't need a doe permit on him and they don't care about windshields! We will sadly miss his sharp witt and big heart. Happy hunting John.
