Margaret Wood Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Jackson Wood
FALMOUTH - Margaret "Peggy" Jackson Wood passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, 2018, surrounded by family after a short stay at Mercy Hospital in Portland.
Peggy was born on August 2, 1927 in Harrisburg, Pa., the daughter of H. Laton and Lois (Mantor) Jackson. The family relocated to Maine in 1928 and after moving several times throughout the state, Peggy graduated as salutatorian of her class at Rockland High School in 1945.
Peggy attended the University of Maine at Orono where she was one of the top 10 highest ranking women of her freshman class, then graduated from the Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston after which she worked for several years at Porteous as a bridal consultant. She then went on to work at the Maine Extension Service Newspaper, followed by a 40-year career in the Falmouth school system where she primarily worked as secretary. Peggy was passionate about seeing students succeed in her community, taking great pride in her contributions to the school district, and cultivating lifelong friendships with both faculty and students.
After retirement, she and Allan spent much of their time enjoying their camp in Sandy River Plantation, and Peggy continued to hone her skills in knitting and embroidery - her most well-known talents among family and friends. She also enjoyed learning and was known to read several books in a week's time.
Peggy will be remembered for her willingness to listen and share advice, her attention to detail, and her sharp mind and independent nature that carried her through her final days.
She is survived by her loving son, Paul A. Wood and wife Nannette (Gervais) Wood of Windham; grandchildren Tyler Wood from Cary, N.C. and Erin Wood of Buxton; nieces Vyonne Swenson of Hydeville, Vt., Jennifer Gilliland of Snowhill, Md., and Shelby Wood Mills of Shiloh, Ill., nephews Mark Wood of Douglasville, Ga., Chris Wood of Florida, and Stephen Wood of Gorham. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Allan L. Wood in 2009, and sister Barbara Jackson Swenson in 1996.
Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, immediately followed by a service at
A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services
at 660 Brighton Ave. in Portland, of which all are welcome to attend.

I know you are resting in peace, Aunty Peg, and “saving a seat” for me. The crocus are blooming, but no need for a shared photo this year. I still miss our chats but will always remember, “when the world around you seems too much to bear, just Let Go and Let God.” Love Jen

You will b missed by so many lives you touched. Remembering the time you rescued me when locked myself out of school van, where I shouldn't have been, never told Topper, love you, miss our conversations

Dear Paul, Nannette and family,
I was sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I know you'll miss her terribly. Although I only saw her a few times, I enjoyed talking to her and deeply appreciated the beautiful sweaters she knitted for my boys. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

Your loving light will shine brightly in me until we meet again. I will miss our time together, albeit over the phone and in cards, saving the world ( if only they would listen) and enjoying each other's pictures of God's beauty in Maine and Maryland. I will miss your over the phone knitting lessons and the way you always lifted my spirit with your kind words. I love, love, love you, Aunty Peg!!!

Paul and family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. I will miss Mrs. Wood (as I called her). I will miss stopping by for our "catch-up" visits. So glad I was able to be at her 90th birthday.
My sincere condolences to you and your family.

I will miss Peggy. She has been my friend for 20+ years. She gifted my grandchildren with sweaters she knitted over the years -- each one a work of art. I shall miss her. Deepest sympathy to her son Paul and his family.

Kind woman that I had the pleasure of doing her hair. I will miss our weekly chats.
