Alvin Clay Obituary

Alvin A. Clay Dean Emeritus of the Business School of Villanova University, a man of fierce loyalty and love for his Family, his Faith, and his Alma Mater, Villanova University, passed into eternal life on Sunday, July 22, 2012. Mr. Clay was a life long resident of Springfield, attended Saint Francis of Assisi grammar school, West Catholic High School and Villanova University (Class of 1951). His first career began with Atlantic Richfield Company but not long after was invited back to his Alma Mater by the founder of the Business College, Rev. Joseph C. Bartley. His love for teaching and for Villanova led him to dedicate 40 years of proud service to the university. Mr. Clay was more than a professor of accounting, he was a Catholic Teacher. His ardent love for his faith and family and commitment to the dignity of each human life was paramount and known - for this he was recognized by the Villanovans for Life with the Respect for Human Life Award. His love for his family, particularly his beloved Nancy, was known to anyone who knew him. He realized his dream of providing a family gathering place where his ten children and 36 grandchildren could gather regularly to share his love for the sea and the shore and one another. Mr. Clay is survived by his beloved wife Anne C. "Nancy" Clay (nee Touey), his children Anne (Dennis) Barr, Emily (John) Pinto, Christine (Paul) Gorka, Alvin (Kathleen) Clay III, Connie (Jeff) Pelesh, Anthony (Bernadette) Clay, Martin (Judith) Clay, Monica Clay, Lawrence (Nancy) Clay, and Charles (Dana) Clay, brother of Joan Ryan and the late James Clay, and Helen Kustin. Grandfather to 36 grandchildren including the late Claire E. Clay and 4 great grandchildren. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday 7:00-9:00 P.M. and Friday 9:30-11:00 A.M in Church of St. Francis of Assisi, 136 Saxer Ave., Springfield, PA., followed by his Funeral Mass Friday 11:00 A.M. Int. SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Camilla Hall Infirmary, Sisters of I.H.M., P.O.Box 100, Immaculata, PA 19345 would be appreciated. Arrangements by The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby (610) 449-0300. Online condolences www.donohuefuneralhome.com

As a friend to grandchild Katherine, I had the privilege of meeting “grandfather” at the shore house a couple of times. His stories were amazing and he remains, to this day, one of the most amazing men I have ever met. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Clay family.
