Robert J. "Jack" Sharp

CRESTLINE: Robert J. "Jack" Sharp , 87, of 305 1/2 St. James Street, Crestline, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Mill Creek Nursing Home, Galion.

Jack was born in Crestline on March 6, 1926 to the late Dewey and Helen (Quinn) Sharp. He married Catherine S. "Katie" Augustine on August, 13, 1960 and she survives him.

Jack was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline. Jack was a member of the Merchant Marines, which is the fleet of ships which carries imports and exports during peacetime and becomes a naval auxiliary during wartime to deliver troops and war materiel. He was in the Merchant Marines during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. Following the end of World War II, he served in the U. S. Army. After his military service ended, Jack worked as an Electrician for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 21 years and retired in 1968. Jack was an entrepreneur, a self-made man. After retiring from the railroad, he started and operated several business endeavors. He was an electrical contractor for Wiring by Sharp, at Sharp Appliance and Repair he did repairs and along with his wife sold appliances, he was owner and operator of Sharp's Coin-Operated Laundromat, also with his wife Katie. Jack was a member of the Mnsr. Leo W. Frye Council #2642, K. of C.

He is survived by his son Michael Sharp, Crestline and his three daughters: Susan and Bill Heitzman, Crestline, Jackie Marsano, Marion, Sandy and Paul Popson, Columbus, nine grandchildren: Brian and Virginia Sharp, Brad and Kristy Sharp, Heather and Craig Stover, Joshua and Michelle Walters, Anthony Marsano, A1C Nicholas Marsano, U.S. Air Force, Robert MacKay, Jordan Popson, Adam Popson, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Roy Sharp.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Monday at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. A Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 P.M., Monday with Deacon Bill Horning officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline, with Rev. Michael A. Geiger, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline. Full military honors will be given at the graveside by the U.S. Army and the Crestline/Galion veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
