Carol Ann Murphy
MOUNT GILEAD: Carol Ann Murphy, age 54, of Mount Gilead, died Friday afternoon, May 11, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.
On October 29, 1957, Carol was born in Marion, the daughter of Leon and Ella (Finchman) Murphy. As a family, they moved to Mount Gilead in 1974.
For many years, Carol worked as a nurse's aid at the Woodside Village in Mount Gilead.
With a love of sewing, Carol was able to make most anything you could think of. She made everything from quilts and bed spreads to curtains and purses, and gave them to her family, friends and the residents at Woodside Village.
Having a green thumb, Carol loved tending to her flowers and plants. She especially enjoyed anything that grew to be very large and had beautiful blooms. She also enjoyed the company of her chickens and turkey, which were more like to pets to her and that she loved dearly.
Always putting the needs of others before her own, Carol made sure her family and friends were well taken care of. She also enjoyed every moment spent with her family, and most especially her grandson, Hayden, who was her "pride and joy".
She will be dearly missed by her son, Jimmy Murphy of Mount Gilead; grandson, Hayden Murphy; parents: Leon and Ella Murphy of Mount Gilead; two brothers: Sunney (Sherry) Murphy of Mount Gilead, and Roger (Pam Johnson) Murphy of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Norma (Mike) Sherman of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her brother, John W. "Bub" Murphy in 2008.
The Murphy family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. and burial will follow in Worden Cemetery.
