Garry Casto Obituary

Garry A. Casto

CARDINGTON: Garry A. Casto, age 66, of Cardington, passed on April 10th, 2012, at Harding Pointe Nursing Home after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.

A man of faith, he sought to serve the Lord in every area of his life. He was a member of Gilead Friends Church and had served in many areas including Sunday School Teacher, Elder and Building Committee Chairman to name a few. His favorite position was Sunday Greeter.

He graduated from Mt. Gilead High School in 1964 and attended Malone College in Canton, Ohio.

Garry worked at Fairfield Engineering in Marion, Ohio for sixteen years. He started in the factory and was eventually promoted to the Lay-Out Department. In 1979, he joined his brother William Casto at Woodside Village in Mt. Gilead and Lexington Court Care Center in Lexington, Ohio as Director of Operations. Later he helped develop Wedgewood Estates Assisted Living in Mansfield. He believed in nurturing employees to help them become their best. He was known for his jovial spirit and everyone knew when he was in the building by his laughter. The safety and care of the residents was always foremost on his mind.

He married his high school sweetheart, Sherry (Shelton) Casto, on September 25, 1965. They shared forty-six years together. Most of those years were spent on the family farm south of Edison, where he had been raised.

He took pride in his four children, three daughters-in-law, son-in-law and nine grandchildren. They are Christopher and Michelle Casto of Cleveland, Chadwick and Lynda Casto of Dayton, Faith and Darroll Kunze of Mt. Gilead, and Aaron and Carmen Casto of Cardington. Grandchildren are Zachary and Rachel Casto, Collin and Gabrielle Casto, Katelin and Kenton Kunze and Aldeane, Garrett and Annalese Casto.

Garry was born January 24, 1946, as the seventh child of William and Violet (Glass) Casto. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters: Grace Wenger, Idabelle Mosher, Bonnabelle Levering, Rebecca Metzel and Elizabeth Rader. His brother, William Casto of Johnsville remains. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Betty Shelton of Caledonia; sister-in-law, Karen Jones of Mt. Gilead; and many nieces and nephews.

The Casto family will greet friends from 2 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., in Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his homecoming will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilead Friends Church, 3613 Township Road 115, Mount Gilead, with a family friend, Timothy Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Cardington.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Friends Mission, P. O. Box 525, Arvada, CO 80001.
