Mr. Steven Ralph "Steve" Nelson, age 71, of Spencer, Virginia, departed this earthly life on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Suncrest Assisted Living in Martinsville. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia on May 2, 1952, to the late Stafford Douglas Nelson and Frances Rea Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy West Nelson; infant sister, Catherine Nelson; and a niece, Kayla Nelson Hill. Steve loved to watch Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, and Ice Road Truckers on television. He enjoyed playing golf at Gordon Trent Golf Course, working with the Patrick and Henry Saddle Club, woodworking, and working in the family apple orchard with his dad. Mr. Nelson was a truck driver for over 40 years. Steve will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Left to cherish the fond memories of Mr. Steve Nelson are one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Nelson (Katherine) of Spencer, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, Katie Greenwood (Rusty) of Claudville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Ethan Nelson, Emma Nelson, Abigail Nelson, Ella Greenwood; two step-grandchildren, Kylie Marshall, Makenna Marshall; one brother, Tony Nelson; one niece, Miranda Nelson; and many dear friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Steve Nelson will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Mark Collins officiating. The burial will immediately follow the funeral service in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Friday afternoon. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, or to the Patrick Henry Saddle Club, 50 Clovehill Drive, Bassett, VA 24055.
