I first met Charlie at a Penn orientation camp in September, 1953 where we and 150 other incoming freshman collected to start our college days. A lasting output of that event was a Class yell; "Quaker men will long recall, '57 best of all". Today, we can modify that to " '57 will long recall, Charlie Meredith, best of all"

Charlie was truly one of a kind. Journalist, rower, joke teller, politician and the only editor/publisher who always wore a bow tie.

I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He was a very
good friend of mine although we hadn’t spoken for many years. Please accept my sympathy.

i had the privilege of serving on the AAA Board of Directors with Charlie for about 35 years. When he was introduced as a new director it became immediately obvious that this was a very, very special man. Over the years we probably played 30 plus rounds of golf...most notably and most fun in a foursome of Meredith, Greenblat, LaVelle and Adams. I remember those glorious days with great pleasure as if they were yesterday. Our duties often involved travel and Pam and I were always so impressed with the magnificent relationship between Charlie and his "Mighty Betsy." Their table at dinners was always the first on filled as we all cherished time spent with them. He took my step son to row on the river many times as he did so many others. I will live out my remaining time having been privileged to have been in his company so often and to have been able to call him a friend. In anyone's lifetime there are so few people we meet that have a profound impact or lasting impression on us that they can be counted on one hand... Charlie Meredith was one of those people to me. I shall miss him and always recall the outstanding man from "Quakerburg" as he referred to his home with everlasting privilege and great respect. God Speed my friend.
