Philip M. Phil Betancourt, 45, of Harleysville, died September 7, 2012 at Abington Health - Lansdale Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband and companion of Lisa M. McMonagle. The two were together 22 years. Born October 31, 1966 in Lansdale, he was a son of the late Beatrice (Chini) and James E. Betancourt, Sr. Phil grew up in Perkasie and graduated from Pennridge High School with the class of 1985. Over the years he held various positions including manager for the Dublin Exxon station and later with Wal-Mart where he worked in security. He grew up always loving Halloween and even became interested in ghost hunting and the paranormal as the years went on. Phil enjoyed camping, fishing, and participating at local flea markets. He also enjoyed getaways down the shore with Lisas family where he also developed an interest in lighthouses. He will be remembered most for his quick wit and quirky sense of humor which will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, James Betancourt, Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Whitehall, PA; his aunts, Nancy Tumey of NY and Margie Kelly of NV; his uncle Frank Sunnie Betancourt of NJ; his cousins, John Siscaretti and Peggy Nadramia of NY, and numerous other cousins in New York and Ohio. He also leaves behind his nephew, Michael Betancourt and his wife, Jessica; two great nieces, Jessleena and Ashley Betancourt; two great nephews, Alex and Donovan Betancourt; and his great-great grandniece, Alexiaha Colon. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Margery Dansby and his sister-in-law, Laura Dansby. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Betancourt; his brother, Thomas Betancourt; his nephew, Jason Betancourt; his father-in-law, Mike Dansby; and his step-mother, Katherine Miller. Survivors: A celebration of Phils life will be held 2 p.m., Saturday September 15, 2012 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave. Lansdale, PA 19446, where relatives and friends are invited to greet the family after 12 p.m. Interment will be private. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phils name to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Rd., Ste. 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
