Pearline Harper Obituary

Pearline Kay Harper (Slaton) was born October 10, 1942 at Merced County Hospital to Mr. &
Mrs. Jack Slaton. Pearline departed this life March 30, 2007, to join her loving Father Jack Slaton, Sr., Brother Llyod
“Eugene” Slaton and son Antionne Mathis in Eternal Life.
Pearline leaves behind her precious mother, Levongia Slaton and siblings, Rosetta Henegan, Jack Slaton, Jr. Florine Williams, Pauline Hickman, Jacqueline Reinero and Hilda Singh all of Merced.
She attended Ealen Park School, Hoover Jr. High and Merced High School. She met and married Edmond Mathis in 1959. to this blessed union five children were born., Edmond Mathis Jr. and his wife Rosalind, Antionne Mathis (Who preceded her in death) Antionio Mathis and his wife Giner, Annette Moore-Jenkins and her husband Horace and Yvette Murray. Pearline not only raised and nurtured her own five children buy 11 grandchildren, Edmond Mathis III, Shaneka Mathis, Candy Mathis, Antonio Mathis, Antionette Mathis, Carlton Mathis, Anthony Mathis, Archie Moore, Antionne Moore, Maleah Mathis,-Murray, 5 great grandchildren, Antiono Mathis III, Calvin Mathis, Iionya Mathis, Anaya Mathis and one on the way, many foster children and a host of nieces and Nephews.
Pearline worked and retired from the Merced County Transit system. She loved to quilt, sew and shop not only for herself but others, attend church and give advise to family and friends. She was known for speaking her mind and her distinctive laughter. Pearline was a strong Christian Woman. She was an active member of the 2nd Baptist Church Family. She touched many lives during her journey here on Earth. Pearline will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2007 from 4-7pm at Whitton Family Funeral Service, 740 W. 19th St. in Merced. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 11 am at Second Baptist Church on the corner of 5th and Q Street in Merced. Pastor Ronald Dunham will officiate. Burial will follow at Merced District Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the direction of Whitton Family Funeral Service.
