Brian Francis Doolin

Brian Francis Doolin Brian F. Doolin passed away on January 31, 2009 at the age of 83. He was born on June 20, 1925 to Anthony and Delores Doolin in Berkeley, California. Brian was raised in San Francisco where he attended elementary and high school. Brian received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in chemistry, physics and math in 1949 from St. Martin's College in Lacey, Washington while in the US Army assigned to Fort Lewis. He later obtained a Masters Degree in Chemistry from Stanford University. Brian is survived by his four children: Anne Davenport, Clare Tynan, Beth Ray and David Doolin as well as eight Grandchildren: Elliott, Jonathan, Benjamin, Matt, Michelle, Scott, Chris and Emily. In addition, he is survived by his ex-wife Barbara Friedland, his Sister-In-Law Nancy Doolin as well as many nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. He was an active member in his Parish, Our Mother of Perpetual Help. After his military service, Brian began an illustrious career at NASA in Moffett Field, California where he became a leader of the Control Theory and Applications Group. He was proud of his contribution to putting a man on the moon. After his retirement from NASA he worked for Lockheed in Sunnyvale. Brian co-authored several graduate level textbooks in differential geometry and control engineering. Brian was an Associate Fellow of the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics. In his free time, Brian loved to study languages and visit family in Ireland and Australia. A rosary will be held at 7 pm Thursday, February 5th at Spangler Mortuary in Los Altos, CA. A Latin Requiem Mass will be at 10 am Friday, February 6th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission Chapel- 1298 Homestead Road, Santa Clara CA. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Brian F. Doolin Aerospace Engineering Scholarship Fund at St. Martin's University in Lacey, Washington or to your favorite charity.
