Madalyn Perrine Obituary

Madalyn Jo Frazzini Perrine
July 21, 1949-July 1, 2015
Resident of Campbell
Madalyn Perrine died July 1, 2015, in the presence of husband Jay and daughter Danielle. In 2010 she was treated for breast cancer, and in August 2013 she was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, brain cancer, which took her life. She was treated for both cancers at El Camino Hospital Cancer Center.
Madalyn was born in Burbank, California, to Eugene and Josephine Frazzini, who about 10 years earlier had lost two infants. She was a very welcomed child. After serving as newspaper editor at Providence High School, she graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1972 and then Washington University School of Law in St. Louis in 1974.
Madalyn moved to Northern California in 1974 after graduating from Washington University Law School in St. Louis. While in St Louis she met Jay Perrine of Cranbury, New Jersey, and fell madly in love. Initially Madalyn was a Vista volunteer for the Community Legal Services of Santa Clara County, and then she took a position at the California School Employees Association, a labor union representing more than 200,000 non-teaching public school employees, headquartered in San Jose. She was promoted to Deputy Chief Counsel in 1998 and retired in 2007 after 32 years of service.
After retirement Madalyn had more time to pursue her passion in music with St. Lucy's Choir and the Elbon Singers. She also accepted the invitation of the Campbell Adult and Community Education to play saxophone in the Campbell Express Band. She stayed social joining the Country Woman's Club of Campbell and was appointed to serve on the Campbell Civic Improvement Commission. Madalyn loved traveling with Jay and Danielle to Hawaii, Italy and Denmark.
With her active and generous spirit, she chaired the Country Woman's Club of Campbell Scholarship Committee for five years and oversaw the distribution of scholarship funds to deserving seniors in the Campbell Union High School District. Madalyn participated in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk as a survivor in 2013, volunteered as piano accompanist for the Skylark Singers, tutored at the Metropolitan Adult Education Program, served on the Campbell Civic Improvement Commission and with Jay worked annually as an election precinct inspector.
She also played in the Los Gatos Recreation Department Band and participated several years in San Jose Saxophone Christmas, a perennial holiday concert featuring more than 200 horns.
Madalyn is survived by her husband Jay Perrine of Campbell and daughter Danielle, as well as niece Kate Dewhirst and nephew Michael Dewhirst of Norwood, Massachusetts.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of San Jose, 1980 Hamilton Avenue.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Country Woman's Club of Campbell, P.O. Box 322, Campbell, CA 95009-0322. Make the check to CWCC Scholarship Fund and in the memo portion write Madalyn Perrine.

Madalyn and I shared many bicycle adventures when we were growing up in Burbank. We even rode our bikes to the Griffith Park observatory. Madalyn was always up for a fun outing. Madalyn was a gifted pianist. My favorite song she played was Debussy's Clair d'lune. she was an eternal optimist. She always had a big smile and lots of energy. She was a big part of my childhood and teen years. Sending hugs.

Dear Danielle,

I just found out about your mother's passing this past Saturday at the ACS/Mt. View Relay for Life. There was a luminaria in her honor and as I walked the track, I saw it. I am so sorry. I know that you were a wonderful support to her.

I first met Madalyn in grammar school at St. Finbar's. We also both attended Providence High School where we were both heavily involved in the school music department through chorus and piano lessons from the same teacher. Madalyn was always so dedicated to her studies and her music.
She played the most beautiful version of Debussy's "Clair d'Lune" that I have ever heard. A few weeks before Madalyn passed away I told her that I always thought of her when I heard that song. She graciously thanked me for the compliment. Although I hadn't seen Madalyn in almost twenty years, We picked up our friendship as though it was only yesterday. Madalyn was so full of life and had such a big heart. I am so grateful to have had her for a friend. She was an amazing person and from the attendance at her funeral, it seems a lot of other people thought the same. Rest in peace, sweetie. Your work on earth is now done and you can rest in peace.

I just read of Madalyn's passing in the Providence High School magazine. I was a classmate of hers so many years ago. The story of her travel to Lourdes with her friend Connie was inspiring and emotional. One never forgets a special classmate and the story of their journey and friendship moved me to tears. The photos in the story were magical. I will pray for her family and send my condolences to them and to that special friend, Connie.

I am sad to learn of Madalyn's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing her as a trusted attorney during my 28 years with CSEA. She was a remarkable person and counselor. She always approached her legal duties with such finesse, but with a kind tenacity. Her legal successes will forever benefit classified school employees. May her spirit always live on! Good Bye Madalyn! You will be missed!

I will remember Madalyn not because our paths crossed that much but because when she heard from my husband, Ed Pansullo, that I, too, was battling cancer, she took the time to send me a kind and supportive, handwritten note that I still have. The spirit of who she was is very much evident in the photo of her and that spirit was what was also evident in her personal note to me.
My sincerest condolences to the family.

I am sad to hear of Madalyn's passing. I knew her when I was a Labor Relations Representative for CSEA. Madalyn's good advice and direction helped me several times when employees needed assistance from their union. But what I remember most was her beautiful smile and joyful countenance. She seemed to especially enjoy the skits she and her colleagues put on at our annual staff retreats. I think she could have been as good of an entertainer as she was a great attorney. Wishing her family love and peace.

Jay and Danielle:

When I was a young attorney at CSEA, Madalyn taught me many things, including patience and compassion. She was a joy the work with. Her musicality makes me think of these lines from Emily Dickinson:

This World is not Conclusion.
A Species stands beyond -
Invisible, as Music -
But positive, as Sound -

May we always hear Madalyn's postive music.

Jay and Danielle, I was so saddened to learn of Madalyn's passing. I worked with her for many years and learned much by observing her kindness and gentle, competent demeanor. She was such an inspiration. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I cannot attend, but I am sending Jay and Danielle love and deep sympathy. I am grateful to read Madalyn's tribute, because I often think of student, and summer staff's parents as just that: "parents" and Madalyn and Jay are awesome parents! I just didn't realize how rich and varied her life, and just how much she gave back to the world! I am so grateful I know your family, and am sending hopes for the tough times to pass, the pain to lessen, and the loss become a tribute to her beautiful life.
Sending love, January

My deepest condolences to Jay and Danielle. My heart aches to think she is no longer with us. I worked with Madalyn on many cases at CSEA and had great respect for her advocacy skills and her passion for fighting for the worker.
