Marilyn McIver Obituary

Marilyn McIver
May 11, 1954 - August 31, 2020
Resident of San Jose
Died peacefully at home in San Jose, CA after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Born in Seattle, WA to Edward John McIver and Joyce Leas McIver. In 1957 her family moved to San Jose where Marilyn attended Five Wounds Grammar School and graduated from Presentation High School. She went on to study journalism at UC Riverside.
A beautiful, gregarious soul with a megawatt smile and a razor sharp wit, Marilyn had a zest for life that was contagious. She was perfectly suited to her career in hotel hospitality, planning elaborate events and excursions for corporate clientele. "Mac's" extravaganzas were legendary. She excelled in her profession and was a generous mentor to many.
Marilyn travelled the world and felt fortunate to have lived and worked in Maui, Palm Desert, Puerto Rico, Chicago, Scottsdale and Tucson, Arizona before returning home to the Bay Area 3 years ago.
Possessed of a big heart and ever present humor Marilyn's gift was bringing people together. Her many lifelong friendships were a testament to her loyalty and kindness. Friends meant the world to her and during these last housebound months she cherished their lengthy telephone conversations. Marilyn had many interests- dancing, tennis, sewing and golf, but, she had an absolute passion for holiday celebrations. Now she's in heaven planning her Halloween costume.
Preceded in death by her parents and her sister Shannon. Survived by her devoted brother Ned McIver of San Jose, CA, sister Megan McIver of San Diego, CA and niece Tara McIver of Arizona.
Funeral arrangements are pending due to Covid-19. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to MSA Coalition 7918 Jones Branch Drive Suite 300 McLean, VA 22102

I still miss you, my friend. Sometimes when I´m working I´ll come across a place where we did a special set- or had a unique problem. Both were a lot more fun with you!

Ned, I am so deeply sorry. There simply could never be a more loving, devoted brother and friend than you were to Marilyn. She loved you so much. I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken to hear of Marilyn’s passing. We were best buds at Presentation and I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity of knowing such a special person and for the countless happy memories we shared throughout those high school years. Fondly remembering our weekly routine of sitting in my car in front of the McIver house and talking about everything and anything for hours on end. It’s impossible to forget her mischievous sparkling eyes, that smile that lit up every room and her ever present razor sharp wit. We sure laughed a lot! Never a dull moment with Marilyn. A very special recent memory reflecting Marilyn’s generous and thoughtful nature was the beautiful celebration she put together for all of her special Presentation friends commemorating our 60th birthdays. Every detail executed perfectly in true Marilyn fashion. She was one of a kind! Thank you dear friend for all the memories. I will never forget you farewell till we cross paths again in Heaven. May God Bless You Marilyn. I love you!❤

Marilyn was a fun loving girl who I was lucky to go through four years of high school with at Presentation. She usually had a big smile on her face and there was always the possibility of a prank or two. The world lost a good lady much too soon.

“Red” was my Daughter, Dana, first baby sitter. From that day forward, she was a good friend and very generous and compassionate woman. In my opinion, she was and always will be Winner!!

Dear Marilyn, There is a hole in my heart this morning after finding out this sad news. I worked with you for many years in Tucson— and it was always a fun, energetic, creative adventure. I was working with you when you first became ill— and yet, you still carried on. I will miss you, my dear friend— and will always remember our meetings for sushi and wine ( chair 22 and 23 at our favorite restaurant) where we laughed and talked about everything!! My condolences to Ned— he was your rock. Marilyn, as you used to say,
“You go girl!”- on to peace.
I will miss you greatly. ❤Suzanne

After looking back at my time with the Marriott Corporation and working in 3 hotels with you Marilyn, I'm grateful I had the opportunity to tell you that you were my first hand mentor on what teamwork really is. I miss you already, I'll miss you always, Maurice
