I had the privilege of working for Tom in the San Jose Planning Office in the early 1980´s then later on being able to say hello when walking past his home on Hanchett on occasion (we live nearby). I also enjoyed running into Tom occasionally a year or two before Covid when we were both doing consulting work for San Jose. He was a great guy with a passion for life. He will truly be missed.

Lots of wonderful memories of travel with Tom, from Lake Quinault to Croatia, from Alaska to Oaxaca. Tom loved music and it was fun to see how much he enjoyed the Santa Fe opera and the San Francisco Symphony. He was curious and always ready for a new adventure. Tom was a kind and sweet man (beneath that gruff exterior) and I and many others will miss him.

So glad to have spent time with Tom in San Francisco last Christmas. We had a really nice time together with Nancy, including a trip to the Museum of Modern Art for a Diego Rivera exhibition. Tom had such a strong appreciation for art and culture that I genuinely admired. He will be missed.

Fifty years more or less of intertwined lives with all its ups and downs. Tom was always there for me when a friend was needed. I tried to reciprocate. Lots of good memories. Patting gray whales in Guerro Negro Lagoon in Baja, him beating me regularly during thousands of Scrabble games, vows he would never again travel in an RV after driving together from WA to CA in mine, our sleeping bags covered in ice in Yosemite....... In recent years almost daily checking to see if we were still breathing, until he wasn´t.
