Dennis A. Haist
Dennis A. Haist, 81, of Sebewaing, went to heaven on February 21, 2022. He was born on July 24, 1940, and graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1958. Dennis was a hard worker from a young age, having a paper route and stocking shelves at Luke's grocery store. Following graduation, he worked for Defoe Ship Building as a carpet layer for several years. He then sold Farm Bureau insurance for 10 years before starting his own independent agency, Dennis A. Haist Insurance Agency, from scratch in 1972, continuing to work there until age 80.
Dennis enjoyed hunting and fishing and went to Esnagi, Canada, in the spring for 10 years to put up ice for a friend's fishing lodge.
He was an All-State high school football player, coached varsity football, and enjoyed watching sports on TV. Dennis was president of the USA Citizens Action Committee which was instrumental in getting the millage passed in order to build the current USA High School. He ran the clock for USA High School basketball games for many years and was a faithful and avid supporter of his children and grandchildren during their sporting and other activities.
For over 40 years, Dennis maintained his in-ground pool where countless children learned to swim. In the summer, he also enjoyed grilling and trying new recipes using different seasonings & smoking techniques.
Dennis appreciated being able to travel all over the world, but his favorite destinations were Acapulco and Alaska. He also enjoyed simply having coffee with friends each morning at the Lamplighter.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on their finance board. He was quietly generous and enjoyed helping others.
Dennis was a fun-loving, mischievous jokester who loved to tease. He treasured time with his grandchildren, and they will miss him beyond measure.
Dennis is survived by his loyal family & friends and his longtime customers.
