Allan Ray Sparrow

1948 - 2023

Allen Ray Sparrow, 74, of Lewistown, Missouri, formerly of Keokuk, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

He was born Dec. 10, 1948, the son of Elmer and Virginia Hagmeier Sparrow.

Allen graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1969.

He was first united in marriage with Connie Carter. They later divorced. He then married Melanie Shearer and they later divorced.

Allen was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge, and Eagles Club. He had also been a member of the Jaycees and had served as a past president for several years.

Allen enjoyed spending time outdoors working in his vegetable garden, raising chickens, and singing karaoke. He loved sports and, while in high school, Allen was a member of the basketball team that played in the state championship. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals never missed watching a game.

He is survived by one sister Linda Sparrow Davis of Keokuk; and two brothers, David Sparrow (Stacey) of Carthage, Illinois, and Kevin Sparrow (Donnagene) of Keokuk. He also is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; Shirley Davidson and one niece Leah.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Donnie Skinner officiating. Burial will be in the Sandusky Cemetery in Sandusky.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, with family meeting with friends at that time.
