Clarence Cameron Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to Clarence "Clancy" Matthew Cameron, 90, of Carthage, Illinois. Clancy passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, at Silver Maple Memory Care in Carthage.

Clancy was born Jan. 20, 1933, in Elderville, Illinois, to Lee and Tillie (McIlmoil) Cameron.

On May 30, 1953, he married Barbara Squires in a ceremony at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Keokuk. They lived together in Hamilton, Basco, and Carthage, Illinois.

Clancy served briefly in the U.S. Army in the early 50s where he learned his trade of cutting meat and performing inventory. He was known to occasionally take leave of absence without getting approval from his superiors. After leaving the Army, he worked/managed several grocery stores in the area. Starting with the A&P in Keokuk, moving to the Super Valu in Augusta, becoming a partner at the Super Valu in Hamilton, to butcher/manager at the Super Valu in Carthage, and finally as the owner/operator with Barb of the B&C Market in Warsaw.

Clarence was well known by many in the area and was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.

He is survived by his children: Perry Cameron of Warsaw, Cathleen "Kay" Cameron of Warsaw, David (Marie) Cameron of Algonquin, Illinois, Patrick Cameron of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Deirdre "Dee" (Tamara Newquist) Cameron of Gladstone, Missouri; grandchildren: Matthew Cameron of Warsaw, Jennifer (Ryan) Robinson of Carthage, Samuel (Janelle) Cameron of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, and Heather (Dan) Cameron-Talbot of Moore, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren: Breonna-Dawn, Bryleau, Blake, Gabriel, Emily, Laura, Carson, Eleanor, and Juliette; and two great-great-grandchildren, Akiah and Hezekiah. He is survived by his brother Larry (Carol) Cameron; and his sisters Marjorie (Stanley) Whitaker and Lulabella Shark Laffoon.

Clancy was preceded in death by his mother Tillie and father Lee; his wife Barb; a daughter Bonnie; his sisters, Marlene and Willa; and five brothers: Donald, Billie, Lyle, Lester, and Albert (Marilyn).

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, with family meeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw.
