Judith "Judy" Sawyer, 82, of Kahoka, Missouri, was reunited with her family on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023.
She was born May 13, 1941, in Davenport, the daughter of Noble Lester and Vivian Jane Berrie Roller.
Judy graduated from Revere High School.
On May 10, 1958, she was united in marriage with Gerald Sawyer. For over 65 years, they shared a love which saw them through the joys and sorrow of life. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2023.
She was one of the founding members of the Mule Festival and drew the first logo for the buttons. Her love for meticulous work and artisanal skill extended to her hobby of collecting, restoring and selling jewelry, and making porcelain dolls.
Judy contributed her skills in various roles including employment at the Ammunition Plant, Swifts, Places and Pamida. She was also the owner of Doodle Bug Craft Store in Kahoka.
Judy was the true matriarch of her family. Devoted to her faith, she was a god-fearing woman whose unwavering strength and love guided her through her life. Gerald and Judy played a pivotal role in guiding and nurturing the lives of most of their family members, shaping them with their wisdom and love. She was a wonderful, devoted wife, mom, grandma and aunt who leaves her family a lifetime of wonderful memories.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Dylan Mikel Wright (Ayla) of Kahoka and Jade Ann Tate (Jordan) of Kahoka; and three great-granddaughters, Aarilynn, Dayla and Whitley, and a great-grandson Cooper. She is also survived by four sisters: Nancy Edlen, Gloria Kiger, Jacquilyn Boatman, and Kelly Varnold, and, two brothers, Timothy (Gerry) Roller and Thomas (Sally) Roller; four sisters-in-law: Darlean Mohr, LaNora Davis, Betty Sawyer, and Tina Roller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Leslie Roy and Stella Faye Weller Sawyer; a daughter Kari Wright; a son Kim Sawyer; brothers: David Kephart and his wife Jackie, Tony Roller, Richard Roller, Kenneth Roller, and Rex Roller and his wife Joann; a sister Susan Redding and her husband Keith; eight brothers-in-law: Jim Boatman, Larry Kiger, Darrell Varnold, Jack Edlen, Gerry "Dean" Sawyer, Delbert Weller, Bobby Sawyer and Glenn Mohr; four sisters-in law; Judy Sawyer Monych, Delores Shannon, Vera McGirl and her husband John, and Virginia Johnson; two nephews, Joe Kephart and Kevin Redding; and a niece Barbara "Bobbi" Edlen Blackburn.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5 at Bible Baptist Church in Kahoka, with the Revs. Tim Roller and Glen Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation will be before the funeral from 10-11 a.m. at the church, with the family meeting with friends at that time.
