Vada Ballew Hoilman

BAKERSVILLE – Vada Ballew Hoilman, 90, of Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Mission Hospital McDowell in Marion, NC. A native of Yancey County on Seven Mile Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rosie Grindstaff Ballew and the wife of 55 years to the late Sherrill Leon Hoilman who passed away in 2008. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Myrtle Hollifield, Mary Lail, Lula Hughes, Ruth Autrey, and Pansy Young; brothers, Kelly Ballew, Charlie Ballew, and James Ballew; and daughter in law, Vicky Hoilman. Surviving are her sons, Tony Hoilman of Bakersville, NC and Tommy Hoilman and wife Jennifer of Old Fort; three granddaughters, Megan McKinney (Brandon), Courtney Peterson (Michael), and Catrina Branch (Ashton); six great grandchildren, Addison McKinney, Brad Peterson, Max Branch, Ezekiel Peterson, Vera Lynne Peterson, and Daisy Vada Branch. Vada dedicated her life to helping others, including 42 years of service at Spruce Pine Community Hospital.
She was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church. Sherrill and Vada were pillars in the community and never met a stranger.
They enjoyed camping, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 3:00 pm in the Bakersville Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Autrey officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service and burial followed in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the Hoilman family.
