Daniel Bohannon Obituary

Daniel Ralph Bohannon
March 19, 1949 - July 2, 2015
Daniel Ralph Bohannon, 66,  died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House.  Dan was born March 19, 1949 in Stockton, CA to Mary and Ralph Bohannon.  In 1967 he graduated from Stagg High School in Stockton, CA and continued his education by attending Sacramento State University.  He played ball all of his life.  Whether it was baseball, softball, basketball, football or recently golf - the game was always in his blood.  Probably best known for his career in baseball he started early in his childhood - playing Babe Ruth, Legion, and going to the numerous State Championship tournaments.  His high school team won the league in football and he became all conference quarterback.  While playing baseball in high school Daryl Johnson from the New York Yankees showed an interest in him, and he was drafted right out of high school.  He continued his education after leaving the New York Yankee organization by attending Sacramento State College.  The love for sports continued.  This love introduced him to a man by the name of Dave Abel.  Abel sponsored a softball team and talked Dan into joining the team.  Dan worked for New York Life Insurance at the time.  Abel convinced him to join his insurance firm and Dan soon became a partner of Abel-Bohannon Insurance after joining the firm in 1979.  In 1989 Dan bought the company and recently changed the name to reflect current ownership and formed Bohannon Insurance Group with Greg Bo and Blair Jeppson.  He continued to operate Bohannon Insurance Group with current partner Blair Jeppson.  He was in the insurance business for 40 years. Dan used the competitiveness and determination previously found in sports to serve his community and also met an important need for Dan to "play the game the best he could."  He continually said yes to charities throughout the county each and every year.  He also gave his time by serving on numerous boards, including Del Rio Country Club for three years in a row.   Dan also coached countless ball teams during his two son's baseball, soccer, basketball and football careers.  Dan mostly concentrated on his golf game in past few years winning the Del Rio Club Championship in 1998 and the PGA West Senior Championship in 2012 in La Quinta, CA.  He gave up on contact sports, but his competitive nature could still be seen  in the  business world.  Dan is survived by his wife of 21 years Vickie Bohannon, his sons Cory and Brian Bohannon (Irene), step children Jennifer and Ryan Ballard (Maria), his seven grandchildren, Payton, Taylor, Brody, Madison, Ariana, Brayden and Jonah, and his brother Gary Bohannon (Pam).
Services will be held at St Joseph's Catholic Church: 1813 Oakdale Road, Modesto, CA on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.  Graveside  services will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery:  1141 Scenic Drive, Modesto, CA.  Reception will follow at Del Rio Country Club: 801 Stewart Road, Modesto, CA.
Those who wish to remember Dan in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Alexander Cohen Hospice House, Hughson, CA.    Arrangements by Eaton Family Funeral Home.

I'm so saddened by the passing of Dan. I met Dan when I was 14 years old. We became friends and played against each other in Jr High School. We became closer friends and teammates at Stagg High School in 1965. We played on championship teams all through High School and won both the Football and Baseball Championships. Dan was the shortstop and I was the centerfielder. Dan was the quarterback and I was the running back. We became best friends. We both were drafted for baseball out of High School. Dan signed with the NY Yankees and I with the Philadelphia Phillies. I remember at the end of one minor league season Dan was playing in Oneona NY and I was in Durham NC. Dan drove down to Durham and we drove cross country back to California stopping at the California border to hug the sign! When Pro ball was over we played on numerous fast pitch softball teams. Cherished memories I always carry in my heart. God Bless you Dan.

In Feb. of '66 I was dropped off at Stagg HS, a long haired SoCal surfer, and the jocks wanted a piece of me! Danny and David Potter kept the wolves at bay until I could meet people. He had a BIG heart, a lazer arm, and could hit the ball a country mile! A straight up dude. Rest easy, Bro.
