Doris Lovvorn Obituary

Doris Louise Lovvorn
July 18, 1922 - September 19, 2018
On Wednesday, September 19, our cherished mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, Doris Lovvorn, was welcomed into her Lord and Savior's heavenly embrace. While we cannot help but be greatly saddened by her death, we know that her lifetime of service in God's name and teaching of his word has brought her the eternal blessing she so richly deserved.
Born to Alice and John Porter on July 18th, 1922 in Los Angeles, it was apparent to all that Doris' buoyant spirit and quick laugh would serve her well throughout life. As a graduate of Los Angeles Polytechnic High School, she began her career as a secretary for Lockheed Aircraft. After moving to Modesto in 1949, she went on to a bookkeeping position for Giddings Brothers Mortgage.
During her fifty years as a resident of Modesto, Doris was a fixture at Sunday school at the First Baptist Church and could be seen walking every Sunday, well-worn bible in hand, from her house on Park Avenue to the church just around the corner. She was a tireless volunteer for the Christian Women's Club and fulfilled many leadership roles for Stonecroft ministries.
Doris moved to Santa Rosa in 1998 and joined the congregation at Hope Chapel. She made two pilgrimages to the Holy Land, the most recent trip on her 85th birthday. Her inspirational emails, written every day for over eight years and sent to over 90 family members and friends, were a welcome ray of hope in an all-too-often chaotic world.
Three men were lucky enough to call Doris their wife: Edwin Stolp, Richard Towle, and William Lovvorn. She raised four successful sons, Philip Stolp, John Stolp, Richard Towle, and Ken Towle, by whom she was given four grandchildren, Allie Hile, Jason Stolp, Kamila Lucero, and Jared Towle. She leaves behind six great-grandchildren, Paige and Philip Hile, Ford and Clay Stolp, Rilynn Lucero, and Raquel Juanita Zuniga, and three loving brothers, Robert , Warren, and Raymond Porter. She was preceded in death by her brother Paul Rowel.
Doris' worldly remains will be interred at Acacia Memorial Park in Modesto. A memorial service will be held November 3rd at 1:00 at Hope Chapel in Santa Rosa and all who loved this amazing woman are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Chapel, Santa Rosa.
