Jacqueline Katsounakis Obituary

Jacqueline (Mason) Katsounakis
OCT 14, 1934 - MAY 12, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Jacqueline Katsounakis announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at her home in Hilmar, CA. She was 83 years old.
Jacqueline will be lovingly remembered by her husband and love, Theodore Katsounakis; their children, Gary Kat- sounakis (Debbie) and Karen Peck (Richard); sister, Alana Dwyer (Jack); grandchildren, Kelli Nagatani (Warren), Stacey DaSilva (Jorge), Nick Katsounakis (Kristina), Ted Katsounakis, and Strat Kat- sounakis; as well as five great-grandchildren. Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Marie Mason.
A native of San Francisco, Jacqueline was born on October 14, 1934 at UCSF Medical Center. She received a Catholic education in that city before beginning a career in the food service and restaurant industries. It was as a carhop at Mel's Drive-In Diner that Jacqueline met her future husband Theodore.
Shortly after marriage, Jacqueline and Theodore moved to San Jose, CA where they raised their two children. Jacqueline became the cafeteria manager at her children's school so she could be on the same schedule. She eventually became the cafeteria manager at Oak Grove High School in San Jose and for the other schools in the Eastside Union School District. In 1993, Jacqueline and Theodore retired and moved to Hilmar, CA to be close to family.
Jacqueline had a passion for dancing, specifically swing, and she loved Johnny Mathis, The Andrews Sisters, Glen Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. She loved dancing the evenings away in clubs in San Francisco, Oakland, and Richmond. Her husband Ted was not a dancer, but he greatly enjoyed watching her. He often tells the story of other people asking how he could let his wife dance with other men. He always answered with the retort, "Why? She's going home with me!" Jacqueline also had a particular talent for crafting. Jacqueline was a talented and award-winning seamstress who loved to crochet and make patchwork quilts.
A viewing, funeral service, and a reception celebrating Jacqueline's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 19, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. Jacqueline's final resting place will be at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock.
