Lee Smith, 41, of Salida, CA left this life on July 29, 2013 at home suddenly and unexpected, but peacefully. He lived life to the fullest, making friends everywhere he went. His admirable strength, integrity, morals, wisdom and courage will be cherished by us all. He enjoyed an 18 year long career in IT and served as an IT engineer for DLA Piper LLP.
His life passions included being an avid pilot and reserve Merced Police Officer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of squadron VF51 and served on the USS Kittyhawk during the Somali operations in 1993. Lee will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. His love of family gatherings and great music was unparalleled. He is survived by his wife Tanya, daughters; Leah, Ashley, and Halee. Mother; Grace; Brother John and numerous friends & family which he held dear. Lee was preceded in death by his father John Smith Sr. We shall not say farewell, for we shall see you again with the lord. We will gather for a celebration of his life, Monday. August 5, 6:30 pm at Castle Airport Terminal.

I really enjoyed working with Lee while he was in Portland. Despite being away from friends and family (and not being particularly fond of the Northwest weather), he was always such a happy and positive person. He's precisely the type of person that I plan to see in heaven.
