Nancy Lynn Nevel

NANCY LYNN NEVEL JULY 23, 1963 - MAR 6, 2011 Sonora resident Nancy Lynn Nevel died March 6 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nev. She was 47. Born in Escalon to Benito and Linda Mata, she was raised in Oakdale and graduated from Oakdale High School. She married Gerry L. Nevel Sr. in 1983, and the couple had three sons together. She would later have three grandchildren, one from each of her sons. They moved to Sonora in 1989. She worked for Wal-Mart before going to work at the Black Oak Casino, where she worked for many years before becoming a full-time grandmother. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Her family said she always put her family first. Mrs. Nevel is survived by her husband, Gerry Nevel Sr., of Sonora; sons, Gerry Nevel Jr., Justin Mata and Joshua Nevel, all of Sonora; grandchildren, Nathaniel Mata, and Alexia and Kayden Nevel, all of Sonora; siblings, Rachel Mata Johnson and Benito Sanders, both of Oakdale; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benito and Linda Mata; and sisters, Rebecca Costa and Nina Jo Mata. A celebration of life is scheduled for a later date.
