Gerard McGonagle Obituary
Gerard "Jerry" McGonagle, age 65, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 4th, 2021 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. Jerry was born on June 13th in Boston, Massachusetts to Arthur and Kathleen (Liddell) McGonagle. He was a 1975 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Monroe, Michigan. Right out of high school Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy, where he would proudly serve for 24 years. He served on the USS Albert Davis (December 1975 - January 1980), the USS McLusky (June 1983 - June 1985), the USS David R. Ray (July 1985-December 1986) and the USS Orion (March 1990 - February 1992). Jerry loved serving in the Navy, he was a true American Patriot. Jerry also loved his sports, and it would be hard to find someone who loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots more than he did. But above all else, he loved his family. Jerry is survived by his wife, Janet (Johnson) of 36 years, his two daughters, Kristan and Karrah, his two granddaughters, Alexis and Keeley, his two sisters, Marie and Eileen, his aunt, Sister Helen Mary McGonagle and many nieces, nephews, great niece, great nephew and cousins. Family, friends and others whose lives Jerry touched are invited to St. Luke's Cemetery - 14477 Benns Church Blvd, Smithfield, Virginia 23430 at 1 PM on Monday, July 12th, 2021 for the services. Celebration of life details to follow services. Jerry's final resting place will be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk Virginia. Our hearts are full of sorrow with Jerry's passing. We have many fond memories of our loving, good natured cousin. He was a wonderful warm hearted man. We enjoyed the visits of Jerry and his family and only wish we could have enjoyed more visits with them. We send our love and sympathy to his wife Janet , his daughters Kristin and Karrah and his grandaughters Alexis and Keeley. We also send our love and sympathy to Jerry's two loving sisters Marie and Eileen and to his loving Aunt Sumpty.
