Harrison Thomas

Thomas, Harrison (Ret. MSG) of Union Springs, AL, entered his eternal rest, Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Russell Medical Center, Alexander City, AL.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Coney Missionary Baptist Church of Midway, AL, with the Rev. J. N. Robbins, Sr., officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, AL.

Thomas was a 27-year veteran of the United States Army and served honorably in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and three tours of Vietnam. While in the Army he received his high school diploma and later completed several classes at the Tuskegeee Institute (Tuskegee University).

After retiring from the Army, the care of his wife, son, and grandchildren was the foremost focus of his life.

In 1950 he married Nora Brown Thomas, and they had only one child, Charles Bernard Thomas, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by a devoted wife of 62 years, Nora Brown Thomas, Union Springs, AL; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Thomas, Union Springs, AL; a granddaughter, Dr. Chaquetta Thomas Johnson, Alexandria, LA; a grandson, Ryan Bernard Thomas, Union Springs, AL; a step-granddaughter, Sybil Stephanie Rodgers and a step-grandson, Frederick Andre' Rodgers; a sister-in-law, Ollie M. Brown, Union Springs, AL; two surviving siblings of twelve, a sister, Annie Henry Walker, Chicago, IL and a brother, Booker T. Rodgers, Chicago, IL and a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be given in memory of Harrison Thomas to the Mount Coney Missionary Baptist Church's Building Fund. Donations may be mailed to Essie Thomas, 2936 County Road 34, Midway, AL, 36053.

Arrangements for Harrison Thomas have been entrusted to the care of Allen Funeral Home, Union Springs, AL.
