David Heidel

David was born on Aug. 31, 1942 to the late Edwin Rudolph Heidel and Lorraine Huling Heidel. He was a life-long faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wartburg. As a young adult, David worked alongside his father to manage the family dairy farm. He earned a B.S. Degree in Agronomy from Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville.
David began his professional career with the Tennessee Department of Corrections at Brushy Mountain State Prison in 1975. He served as a counselor in the Treatment Division and was later promoted to the level of Unit Manager. His final years before retirement were served as Farm Manager at the Morgan Regional Correctional Facility in Wartburg. David was highly respected by his supervisors and peers.
After retirement he continued to manage the family farm. He was well known for his love of hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin R. Heidel.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Bumgarner Heidel; mother, Lorraine Heidel; three sisters, Joan Weber (Neil), Wanda Turner (Leroy) and Nina Wade (Ron); three nephews, Christopher and Jeremy Weber and Tyler Winstead; one niece, Erika Weber Henson; five great-nieces and nephews; and many other loving relatives and friends.
The family received friends Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wartburg with Pastor David Graves officiating. Interment followed in Morgan Memorial Gardens in Wartburg.
