Forrest Fleming Obituary

Forrest Alexander "Top" Fleming

July 29, 1938 - September 13, 2022

Forrest Alexander "Top" Fleming, 84, of Morganton, took his journey from his earthly home to his home in Heaven Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022.

He was born July 29, 1938, the fourth son of Horace Frank Fleming and Margaret Arney Fleming. Forrest was an active member of Mt. Home Baptist Church for almost 20 years, serving as a deacon, usher, and assistant Sunday school director. He loved the Lord, his church, his family and his country.

Forrest retired from the state prison system as a program director at Foothills Correctional. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Military life was a passion for Forrest, and he served in the Army National Guard for over 33 years. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major. After his retirement, he worked with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. He was the western area chair, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Forrest was a volunteer fireman in Carbon City for several years. In 2007, wanting to remain active and involved in city government, he was elected to the Morganton City Council. He served for 12 years before retiring. He was an active member of VEDIC, until his passing.

Family members who have gone on before him are his parents; mother and father-in-law, Mildred and Ed Mosteller; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Betty Fleming; sisters-in-law, Irene Fleming, Ronell Bradley, and Judy Turner; and nieces, Rhonda Fleming and Beverly Roland.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 43 years, Nancy Mosteller Fleming; daughter, Sonya Leigh Fleming; brothers, Robert Fleming and Ben Fleming and his wife, Margaret; nephew, Doug Fleming and his fiancée, Kat; great-nephews, Josh Fleming and his wife, Lisa (and their children, Caroline and Levi), Jake Fleming and fiancée, Jessica, and Greg Tuttle and wife, Trish; a special brother-in-law, Michael Bradley; and his grandcat, Mr. Kitty.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m., in the church, with the Revs. Jerry Gamble and David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery with Military honors provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Burke County Friends for Animals or Amorem Hospice.
