Harold Winston Causby SHELBY Mr. Harold Winston Causby, of Shelby, N.C., passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Cleveland Regional Hospital, Shelby. Harold was born the elder son of Forest Braxton Causby and Effie Wise Causby on August 2, 1927, in Burke County, N.C. A graduate of Glen Alpine High School, he enlisted in the service of the United States Navy. After his tour of duty, he studied at Wake Forest College, Wake Forest, N.C. Upon completion of his studies at Wake Forest, he began working as a furniture sales representative for Bassett Furniture. He took pride in his work and his family, encouraging them and supporting them in their own ventures. A long-time member of First Baptist Church, Shelby, he was recognized as Layman of the Year, by the North Carolina Baptist Men, 1982. He served on the Board of Advisors at Gardner-Webb University and as a Trustee at Mars Hill College. His zest for life and passion for the Lord spurred in him a generous spirit, touching the lives of many he came in contact with as he supported ministries all over the world. He was preceded in death by his parents and his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary Lucinda Hamrick Causby. He is survived by his loving wife, Polly Abernethy Willis Causby, his sons, David and wife, Rebecca, of Shelby, Robert, of Charleston, S.C.; and a former exchange student from Brazil, whom he thought of as a son, Harold Pinto and wife, Regina, of Nashville, Tenn.; as well as his children by marriage, Bryan Willis and wife, Natalie, of Boone, and Jan Willis Harris and husband, Mark, of Rutherfordton. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, Lucinda Causby Mac-Arthur and husband, Noel, of Shelby, Kate Causby Carter and husband, Jeff, of Valdese, Stephen Causby, of Atlanta, Ga., Keeley Causby Bruner and husband, Jason, of Princeton, N.J., Forrest Causby and wife, Corinne, of Winston-Salem, Gordon Causby and wife, Tien-Hui, of Chengdu, China, Ana Pinto Monnaco and husband, Carlos of Nashville, Tenn., Leticia Pinto Workman and husband, Drew, of Nashville, Tenn., Kelsey Willis Helmick and husband, Casey, of Boone, Elliott Willis, of Boone, Alex Harris of New York, N.Y., and Lucas Harris, of Rutherfordton. He also was the proud great-grandfather of six great-grandchildren, Allie MacArthur, of Shelby, Shepherd, Colette and Ephraim Causby, of Winston-Salem, Olivia Carter, of Valdese, and Carolina Monnaco, of Nashville, Tenn. His brother, Nelson Causby and wife, Margaret, also survive; as well as his loving neice, Nelsonya Causby and husband, Jack Moor-head, and their daughters, Avery and Brooke. The family requests that memorials be sent to Hawaii Baptist Academy, 420 Wyllie St., Honolulu, Hawaii 96817, or North Carolina Baptist Men, P.O. Box 1107, Cary, NC 27512. A memorial service celebrating the life of Harold Causby will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Shelby on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
