Robert Edward "Bob" Sennhenn

1920 - 2016

Robert Edward "Bob" Sennhenn, went home to the Lord on June 16, 2016. Bob was born on July 31, 1920, in Lorain, to the late John and Nettie (Link) Sennhenn. He became a big brother to siblings Paul and Herbert. He attended Vermilion School for the first eight grades, as well as Vermilion German Reformed Church, where he was confirmed.
At Florence High School in Birmingham, Bob was a good student and a good athlete. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He was a member of the Birmingham Future Farmers of America and of a championship apple judging team. He also took piano lessons because his mother asked him to. Bob attended the Florence Congregational Church, where he belonged to the young people's groups and sang tenor in the choir.
Bob married his sweetheart, Margaret Funk Miller, on September 29, 1942, at Brownhelm Congregational Church. They had been married just over six months when Bob received his draft notice. He entered the U.S. Army in May 1943, and proudly served his country in the South Pacific where he belonged to the Amphibious Engineers. Bob was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1946, after the war ended.
Bob and Margaret bought a house in Vermilion Township, where they grew their family to include a daughter and two sons. Bob worked hard as a supervisor at U.S. Automatic Company to support his family. At times he worked two jobs to help make ends meet.
Bob was a manager of the Brownhelm Little League baseball team for a number of years. He enjoyed working with the boys, and could barely wait to start practice in the spring. He made an impression on the players; even after nearly sixty years former players came back to visit. Bob also helped with the Community Christmas, packing and delivering baskets to the elderly and homebound.
Bob's favorite hobby was bowling, and he bowled on teams for about 25 years. Many times the teams won championships, including a state championship one year. Bob and Margaret looked forward to attending annual bowling tournaments. They also owned a motor home and traveled together throughout the country. Bob and Margaret especially enjoyed spending time with their kids and grandkids.
Memories of Bob will have a special place in the hearts of his family: loving wife Margaret, to whom he was married for seventy-three years; children, Judy Graham, Bob Sennhenn (Elisa Poole), and Tom (Sue) Sennhenn; grandchildren, Stephanie (Mark) Zmuda, Kristi (Brian) Bulkowski, Tony Sennhenn, Holly (Alain) Cagnard, Amber (Tim) Stobel, and Tracy (Troy) Jacobs; and great grandchildren, Erin and Evan Zmuda, Eli and Max Bulkowski, Mason Clark, Gracie Carnes and Xavier Cagnard, and Franklin and Arden Stobel.
The family is grateful for the care Bob received from the staff at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village and Sprenger Hospice.
Family and friends will celebrate Bob's life with a memorial service at Brownhelm United Church of Christ on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 11:00 am.
