Sandy Huston

MUSCATINE-Sandy Huston, 83, of Muscatine, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
A family Memorial Service will be held at a time to be determined. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Wesley United Methodist Church. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Sandy was born on March 22, 1938, in Skokie, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Amanda Bell Spitzer. She married the love of her life, Bruce Huston, on January 25, 1959, in Lostant, Illinois. They were married for 58 years before his passing in 2017.
She received a bachelor's degree in German from the University of Illinois. She served on the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors for 20 years with many terms as Board Chairman. She was a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield board of directors for over 20 years. She was active in PEO. Sandy was known for her integrity, objectivity, and commitment.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was active in the choir with her husband. She enjoyed sewing, baking, and birding, but even more spending time with her family. Sandy especially treasured road trips with Bruce exploring this country.
Those left to honor her memory include two sons, Glenn Huston and wife, Kathy, of Muscatine, and Carl Huston and wife, Ronda, of West Columbia, Texas; five granddaughters, Tabitha Tipton and husband, Dennis II, Hope Huston, Melyssa Johnson and husband, Matt, Danielle Andes and husband, Caleb, Sydney Hans and husband, Randy; five great-grandchildren, Keely, Wyatt, and Waylonn Andes, Leo Hans, and Molly Johnson; two sisters, Karen Upper and husband, Chris, of Cross Plains, Wisconsin, Terry Ann Gibson of Boise, Idaho; and one brother, Wayne Spitzer and wife, Wanda of Cable, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; her parents; and brother, Roy Spitzer.

Deepest sympathies and condolences to the Huston family. Sandy was a strong advocate in attracting IPSCO (now SSAB) to Muscatine County.
