Gertrude L. Schwarz Hayes, 92, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Tremont Health and Rehab center in Tremont, PA, where she had resided for the last 7 years. She was born in Jersey City to William and Elsie Menny Schwarz and had resided in Dunellen for many years and in Middlesex for 20 years before moving to Doylestown, PA in 2000 and later to Oley, PA. Gertrude had worked as a receiving clerk with Baker and Taylor Co. in both Somerville and Bridgewater, before retiring in 1984. She had attended St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Dunellen for many years.

She was the wife of the late Michael J. Hayes who died in 1998 and the mother of the late Michael J. Hayes, Jr. who died in Vietnam in 1969. Gertrude was the sister of the late Hermina Gibney, Edna McCoy, Marie Demarast, George, William and Charles Schwarz. Her family includes a son, Richard E. Hayes and his wife Linda of Oley PA, a sister, Mildred Durick of Oregon, a brother, Kenneth Schwarz and his wife Arian of Piscataway, 2 grandchildren, Jessica Misel (Matthew) and Ryan Hayes, 2 great grandchildren, Ella and Olivia Misel.

A service will be held at The Mundy Funeral Home, 142 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
