MARIA A. CASELLA BANCER POLLEN
COLONIA
Maria A. Casella Bancer Pollen passed away Oct. 5 after a struggle with cancer showing her indomitable spirit to the end. She was a native of Perth Amboy born of Italian immigrants and became an alumna of Perth Amboy's "Halls of Ivy" where she was a cheerleader and avid piano player. She went on to become respected in medical administration and was a successful business owner. One of her pleasures was devotion to service through the Deborah Hospital Foundation. She immersed herself fully in her children's lives with their immeasurable gratitude. She was a 40 year resident of Colonia, NJ and divided her time between NJ and Jupiter, FL. She will be remembered as a remarkable woman who was well-travelled, fiercely loyal and above all a generous and loving mother. Her outward beauty was rivalled only by her inner light and love. She will be missed every minute of every day.
She is survived by a brother, Mr. Frank Casella, a son, Mr. Joseph Bancer, 2 daughters, Mrs. Brenda Mesko and Dr. Maressa Pollen, as well as 3 grandchildren, Miss Maria Bancer, Miss Elisha Bancer and Xavier Michael Mesko.
Funeral Services will be Monday 10 AM from the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 424 East Ave. Perth Amboy, followed by a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Most Holy Rosary RC Church, Hopelawn. Interment to follow at Most Holy Rosary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 PM. All remembrances are welcome and donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation. DEAR AUNT MARY, THANKS FOR BEING THERE THE DAY I WAS BORN . I CAME TOO QUICK AND WAS BORN AT HOME. YOU SAVED ME FROM BEING NAMED GIZELLA AND NAMED ME KAREN LYNN. GLAD MY MOTHER LISTENED TO THE NAME YOU PICKED. I HAVE SO MANY MEMORIES GROWING UP AT BOTH YOUR COLONIA HOUSES AND EVEN THE ITALIAN GROCERY STORE YOUR MOM OWNED DOWN BY THE FERRY. WE WERE SUCH A CLOSE FAMILY BACK THEN. NOW ALMOST EVERYONE HAS PASSED ON AND IT SADDENS ME SO. I AM SO GLAD YOU MADE IT TO TARA'S WEDDING IN JUNE, IT WAS SO GOOD TO SEE YOU. LITTLE DID I KNOW IT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME. WHEN WE TALKED ON THE PHONE THIS PAST WINTER YOU FILLED ME IN ON SO MANY STORIES ABOUT OUR FAMILY AND ALSO ABOUT YOU WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG AND ALL THE STRUGGLES OUR FAMILY WENT THROUGH. YOU GAVE ME THE GIFT OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF WHERE I CAME FROM. THINGS ABOUT MY PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS AND YOUR PARENTS THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN. I WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW MUCH IT MEANT TO ME TO SEE YOU STANDING IN THE CHURCH WAITING FOR TARA TO ARRIVE ON HER WEDDING DAY. YOU WERE RIGHT NEXT TO HER WATCHING HER GET READY TO WALK DOWN THE AISLE WITH HER FATHER. IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE MY MOTHER WAS THERE AFTER ALL. THAT'S A VISION I WILL TAKE WITH ME FOREVER. THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES THAT YOU GAVE TO ALL OF US! LOVE, COUSIN KAREN
