Vilma Fortuna, 76, died on March 18, 2016 peacefully at home. Vilma was born in Matawan, NJ and spent her youth there with her Mother, Emma, Father, Eugene and 2 brothers, Eugene and Andrew. Vilma graduated from Matawan High. She went to college in Newark and met her loving husband of 57 years, Robert. They had 3 children, Emma, William and Bob, Jr. and settled in Hillsborough in 1973. Vilma spent many years teaching and developing education to a "New State of the Art". She taught in Hillsborough, Montgomery and St. Paul's in Princeton. She also worked in private industry. Vilma was an Earth Mother, who loved gardening extensively. A Gourmet Cook, she enjoyed feeding her family. She was the matriarch of the family and took much pride and love for all. She will be remembered lovingly for her spunkiness, fierce determination and grace.

Vilma is survived by her husband, Robert Slawski, Her daughter, Emma Griffith & Son-In-Law, Allan Griffith, her son, William Slawski, and her son, Robert Slawski, Jr & Daughter-In-Law, Suzanne Slawski. Vilma had 4 grandchildren: Jesse Griffith and his wife, Jess Griffith, Vilma Hill and her husband Anthony Hill, Lila Griffith and Emmy-Lu Griffith. Vilma's great-grandchildren include Fenix Griffith, Alizae Miller, Gianna Hill, Zion Christian, Keirra and Kailee Hill. There are many relatives, she loved and adored you all.

A viewing / service for Vilma will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at The Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 Route 206, Hillsborough, NJ from 4:00 - 8:00pm.

On Saturday, March 26, 2016 A Celebration of Vilma's Life will be held on Saturday at 11:30am at Café Graziella, 390 US 206 #8, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. 908-281-0700.
