Dianne Owens Obituary

Dianne K. Owens
Litchfield
Elizabeth Dianne Kearns Owens, 75, went home to Jesus on December 17, 2016, after suffering a stroke.
She was born in High Point, NC to Mamie Malpass and C. Wayne Kearns, Sr. In May 1954, the family moved to Myrtle Beach, where Dianne graduated high school, Salutatorian in 1959. She studied piano with Sunny Stowe Taylor, going on to Flora MacDonald College to major in music. She graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1963.
She married D. Frank Owens, Jr. in 1964. For a time she taught private piano lessons and public school music, and later was organist at First United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach, where she was a long-time member. After her children were older, she assisted Frank in his business as owner of Capt. Dave's Dockside in Murrells Inlet. During this time she enjoyed volunteering as pianist for the senior men's Sunday School at First Methodist.
Once grandchildren arrived, her vocation/avocation was full-time grandmother. She and Frank moved to Litchfield, they became associate members of St. Paul's Waccamaw UMC.
Dianne was an avid reader; her favorite book was the Bible. She spent many hours carefully studying The Lord and in prayer. Her passion was her family.
Mrs. Owens was predeceased by both her parents. She is survived by her husband of Myrtle Beach Estates, her children, David F. Owens III (Deborah) of Murrells Inlet, and Beth Owens Thomas (Todd) of Pawleys Island, her grandchildren, McMillan and Heyward Owens, and Alson, Mamie and Frankie Thomas. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Susan Kearns Wadley (Larry) of New Bern, NC, and her brother Charles H. Kearns, Jr. of Surfside Beach, as well as two special friends Meriam Carter and Linda Stowe, and numerous cousins.
An online guestbook can be signed at www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to either St. Paul's Waccamaw UMC, 180 St. Paul Place, Pawleys Island, SC 29585, and designated for Toombs Kay Ministry or to Alzheimer's Association, National Office, 225 N. The first time I met Dianne was on a school day trip in the 7th grade, perhaps on the Carolina Queen. It was her first day as a new student in our class. She was always a soft spoken, smart, and positive person. No doubt many will miss her.

I enjoyed so much working with Mrs. Owens at old Dockside and talking about Grandchildren to come and flowers. Her favorite flower was a Gardenia.

Dianne and I were classmates at Myrtle Beach High School. She was beautiful, friendly and smart. Helped me with school assignments. She used to bring her dad to Spring House Restaurant in MB on Thursdays to have fried liver for lunch. Her husband, Frank and I would swap stories about our time in the Marine Corps. Dianne's name was called out this morning in remembrance at MBFUMC. I'm sorry that Dianne is no longer with us. She was one of the best. May God bless your homecoming, Dianne. With love, Danny
