Muriel Parks Obituary

MYRTLE BEACH | Muriel Joy Parks of Deerfield Plantation died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Agape Senior Center.

Born in High Point, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Ethel Robbins Hilton.

Mrs. Parks completed three years at High Point University before moving to Washington, D.C.

She wed E. W. ''Joe'' Parks on March 4, 1944 and they remained married until his death on December 21, 2004.

She worked as executive secretary for the U.S. District Attorney until her daughter was born in 1956. When she returned to work in 1967, it was for the Montgomery County, Md. school system.

She last worked as librarian at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

Joy lived in Silver Spring, Md. until retiring to Myrtle Beach in 1981.

She took pride in designing a house which Joe oversaw being built in Deerfield.

Joy liked to square dance, bowl, play golf, do crafts, travel, collect antiques and work in her flower beds.

She remained active until the last few years and in spite of Alzheimer's, managed to maintain her dignity and spirit until her death.

Surviving are daughter, Faye Ellen Stutz of Myrtle Beach; grandson, Michael Ryan Stutz of Myrtle Beach; nephews, Truman Hilton II and Reid Hilton; and niece, Elizabeth H. Sneed.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
