Van Doran Crutchfield, 80, passed away peacefully at Agape Senior Hospice in Conway, SC. on April 22, 2015. Van graduated from Eli Whitney High School in Graham, NC in 1953. Van was born February 23, 1935 in Burlington, NC. Van married Margaret Dixon in 1954 and she graduated from Eli Whitney in 1955 and she passed away on May 1, 2013. Van was born in Burlington, NC and was the son of the late R. C. Crutchfield and Mable Terry Crutchfield. Van started his working at Sellers Mill in Saxapahaw during his high school years. Van moved his family to Charlotte, NC and worked for BASF Corp in the Technical Service Department. Van in 1965 Worked in Sales at Tenneco and American Chemical and Color (AC & CC) as Field Sales Manager and in 1975 (AC & CC) Regional Sales Manager Danville, VA, 1979 (AC & CC) Regional Sales Manager in Dalton, GA. Van and Margaret became owners of Credible Inc. in Richfield, NC and sold the business to retire in 2000. Van was a Freemason and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley in Charlotte, NC. Van grew up in Alamance County, NC in Saxapahaw. Van was a member of the undefeated 1951 American Legion Baseball Team and is a member of the Graham Sports Hall of fame. Van and Margaret retired to North Myrtle Beach, SC in 2001. He is survived by sons Kim Dixon Crutchfield of North Myrtle Beach, SC and son Todd Lee Crutchfield of Jacksonville, FL. Van and Margaret were active members of Trinity United Methodist Church North Myrtle Beach, SC. Van loved all sports including Carolina Tar Heels and Carolina Panthers football. Van loved playing and watching golf as he was a scratch player. Van won numerous individual and team golfing events. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Agape Senior Conway, SC. A Graveside Service will be held at Moore's Chapel Cemetery at the intersection of Hwy 87 South and Moore's Chapel Cemetery Road, North of Saxapahaw, NC on May 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Mr. Rowen Grant officiating. A celebration and tribute to his life will be held after the graveside service at Hursey's BBQ 1234 South Main Street, Graham, NC 27215.
