Anne Newell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Springer and Son - Aloha Funeral Home & Crematory on Oct. 24, 2024.
Anne (Zahn) Newell
Date Of Birth: 06/02/1948
Date of Death: 10/13/2024
Anne (Zahn) Newell passed quietly early on the 13th of October, 2024. She was blessed to have her dear friend Pam by her side.
Anne was born in Philadelphia in 1948, and grew up in Perry Hall, Maryland, and later the Dulaney Valley area, with her brothers Robert (passed), Mark, and Paul, and her parents, Stanley and Florence. She was trained in classical piano and voice, and loved the theater. She sang in school musicals at Dulaney High School in 1965-66 and at her church. With her mother, she sang in the renowned Baltimore Phoenix Choir.
Anne studied at Western Maryland College, and then at University of Missouri after her family moved to St. Louis. While back in Maryland on a visit, she met and fell in love with David Newell. They were married in May 1970. Anne's continued interest in music was further sparked by David's band, which played venues in Baltimore and Washington, DC. After joining some of her husband's family in San Jose, California, Anne completed her Bachelor's Degree at San Jose State and worked for several start-ups in Silicon Valley as a certified Purchasing Officer. She completed her formal education by getting an MBA at Pepperdine College.
Beginning her life as a mother, she gave birth to her son Hugh in 1984 and daughter Clover in 1986. Soon after, she and her family returned to Maryland, living in Salisbury, Hagerstown, Frederick, and then Ijamsville, as she and her husband continued to work and raise their children.
Eventually, the West Coast called to Anne once again. She found work in San Jose with the intent relocating her family, and when the company moved to Beaverton, Oregon, she followed, where her family joined her. There, she nurtured her Lutheran roots by joining the congregation at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. She got great joy from singing in the church choir and playing in the bell choir. She also took on the difficult and time-consuming task of bookkeeper at her church.
After her husband passed, Anne was lonely for companionship, and eventually found it in her puppy dog, Leeloo. The two of them moved into the Hearthstone senior community on Hart Rd.
Anne was a wonderful, loving mother; a kind, patient, and insightful sister; a bright and very talented person who will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. Anne, please leave us knowing you were loved and appreciated by all. We bless and thank you for your presence in our lives.

Annie, I think about you so often and, especially, our great college adventures and early years as new brides living in the D.C. suburbs. I'm sorry you ended up living so far away from our Atlantic Coast upbringing, but you got to dip those cute toes into another ocean! You are still my best friend! I miss you, Annie!
