Billy Ray Chism, age 89, of Brownwood went to be with his loving savior on
Friday September 29, 2023.
He was born May 15, 1934 in Zephyr, Texas to Arthur Herbert and Jewel Frances (Horner) Chism.
Billy served his country in the Army National Guard 549th Administration Company 49th Armored Division for 8 years. He was called to active duty from
October 1961 to July 1962 at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Billy married the love of his life, Peggy Jo Brubaker Chism on February 26, 1954 in Brownwood, TX. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage. Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather sharing his love for all. Billy worked in the meat market industry for 21 years before working at M & F Gauge. After retiring, he unselfishly took care of Peggy, always being there for her during her times of illness.
Billy Chism devoted his life to the Lord and was a member and Elder of 4th and
Stewart Church of Christ. Billy was a strong Christian man with great faith in God.
He was blessed in his life with many friends and family who loved him dearly. His
family ask that you not mourn his departure but celebrate in the victory and assurance knowing that he has gone to join his wife Peggy Jo Chism in the arms of the Lord.
Billy is survived by children, Kim and husband Don Beard of Eula, Pam and
husband Terry Teague of Brownwood, Nickey and wife Sarah Chism of Coleman.
Brother Don Chism, and sister-in-law Linda Chism. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, parents, Arthur Herbert and Jewel
(Horner) Chism, brothers L.H., Harrell, Odell Chism and sisters, Mattie Wardlow
and Faye Turner.
Billy felt blessed by many friends and family who prayed for him during his illness. He was thankful for the blessings of love and support from his church, family, and friends who loved him. His trust was always in God. The Chism Family is very grateful and blessed to have had such a Christian man in their lives.
He will be greatly missed.
