Bobby R. Cameron

Bobby R. Cameron, formerly of Canton, IL, later relocating to Spring Hill, TN, was born on January 16, 1932. A proud 92-year-old, Bobby passed away on May 8, 2024, in Franklin, TN.
Bobby is survived by his two daughters, Julie (Dode) Bender of Franklin, TN, and Teresa Cameron of Los Osos, CA, along with three grandchildren, Jared, Jacob (Lindsey), and Jacey Bender; and a step-great-grandchild, Kelsey Bender. Bobby was preceded in death by Nancy K. (Shriber), his wife of 67 years, and his parents, Frank and Hazel (Beaird) Cameron; a brother, Richard, and a sister, Carol (Cameron) Petty.
Upon returning from U.S. Army service during the Korean War, Bobby briefly stoked fires at International Harvester before beginning a career with the United States Postal Service. He started as a letter carrier and retired as a rural route carrier after 38 years of delivery. Bobby knew every route in Canton and Banner and could likely tell you the addresses of many of your relatives.
After retiring, Bobby continued his hobby of finding unique collectibles and auction finds and was always ready to buy, sell, or trade almost anything. If you were searching for an item, chances are he had at least one or more in storage. Bobby was one of the first people in Canton to own a Volkswagen Beetle and always seemed to have something Volkswagen branded in his collection. He enjoyed connecting with people over a cup of coffee and was a regular in coffee circles at home and when traveling back and forth between Illinois, Tennessee, and Florida. He firmly believed that the world was a small place, and in conversation, often found or heard of a way to connect you with Central Illinois.
As a veteran. Bobby was a member of the American Legion and a lifelong member of the VFW. He was also a gold member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
